(B,L,D)
Day 3
Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona
We awake at the steps of Grand Canyon National Park this morning.
With its unfathomable dimensions - 277 miles long and 18 miles wide
this geologic wonder is perhaps the nation's most spectacular. We
spend the morning at the South Rim, where the constant play of light
and shadow profoundly changes the colors of the plateaus and mesas
within the chasm. Nearly a mile below, the Colorado River continues
its slow work, deepening the canyon a fraction of an inch every
year. We return to the train to enjoy dinner and overnight on board
en route to Cedar City. (B,L,D)
Day 4
Bryce Canyon National Park, Utah
This morning we enjoy breakfast and lunch on the train as we travel
to our next destination. Upon arriving in Cedar City, we board motorcoaches
to explore Bryce Canyon National Park. Paiute Indians described
this jagged strip along the edge of the Paunsaugunt Plateau as "red
rocks standing like men in a bowl-shaped canyon." Eons of rain
and wind sculpted this sandstone environment into a maze of spires
and arches. Layered in red, rose, orange and lavender, the stone
landscape is elemental and alien - almost Gothic in its drama.
We tour Bryce Canyon by coach, stopping for short hikes and stunning
views along the way. In the evening, we enjoy dinner and overnight
at the Zion Park Inn. (B,L,D)
Day 5
Zion National Park, Utah
After breakfast in the hotel, we board motorcoaches and transfer
to Zion National Park. Millions of years of unrelenting erosion
have formed this primeval wonderland of red sandstone buttes, domes
and sheer canyon walls. The "heavenly city of God," or
Zion, was named by early settlers, and park visitors still find
the label appropriate. We explore the park on a scenic drive following
a winding river, with frequent stops along the way. Back on board
the train, we enjoy dinner and overnight en route to Saint Anthony.
(B,L,D)
Day 6
Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming
This morning we enjoy breakfast on board the train before departing
on motorcoaches to the astounding sights of Yellowstone National
Park. The park protects more than two-million acres of wilderness
- a glimpse of the West from centuries past. Miles below the park's
surface, water and molten rock converge, creating over 10,000 boiling
springs, mud pots and geysers. After a full day of exploring, we
gather for dinner and overnight in a national park lodge. The evening
is ours to spend relaxing and browsing in the area shops. (B,L,D)
Day 7
Grand Teton National Park
After breakfast in the lodge, we board motorcoaches and set out
to the Teton Mountain Range - perhaps the most abrupt and breathtaking
in America, with Grand Teton Mountain rising to13,770 feet. At the
foot of these mountains lie Jackson and Jenny Lakes - these mirror
lakes are majestic, yet tranquil, a favorite site for photographers
and sightseers. Centuries ago, native Americans hunted the great
elk herds that gathered at the foot of the range - perhaps the most
abrupt and breathtaking in America, with Grand Teton Mountain rising
to 13,770 feet. Today, we spend the day exploring this spectacular
region, stopping for lunch at the Museum of Wildlife Art which overlooks
an elk refuge. This evening, we transfer back to the train to enjoy
our farewell cocktail reception and dinner. We overnight on board
en route to Salt Lake City. (B,L,D)

fall colors. Alternatively, stay in the old city center to venture
out on your own, enjoy dinner and overnight at Chateau Frontenac.
(B,L)

of fall colors spreads throughout the countryside. On board the
American Orient Express, we will journey along less-traveled routes
through mountain passes, river valleys and small towns. The cultural
centers of Boston, Montreal and Quebec City are rich in history
dating back to the 1600s. We explore these great old cities, spending
quality time at select hotels in Boston and Quebec City's historic
citadel. Rail travel through this region during the fall is breathtaking.

fertile agricultural valleys and expansive forests. Experience a
scene from yesterday as shopkeepers stop and wave as the train passes

its independent merchants, enabling this city to keep its early
20th century "Main Street" charm and it is here that we

a farewell cocktail reception, dinner and overnight on board en
route to our final destination. (B,L,D)

evening for our private welcome reception and dinner. We take this
opportunity to introduce the train staff and other guests who will
be joining us on our journey. This evening, we overnight at the Loews
Ventana Canyon. (D)
Day 2
Tucson / Board the American Orient Express / Nogales, Mexico
After breakfast in the hotel, we transfer by motorcoach to the Saguaro
National Park and the world famous Sonora Desert Museum. Conveniently
located on the outskirts of Tucson, this park and its "living"
museum presents the unique desert flora and fauna to visitors. After
touring historic downtown Tucson, we board motorcoaches for a scenic
ride to Nogales for lunch before boarding the train. This evening,
we enjoy dinner and overnight on board. (B,L,D)
Day 3
San Carlos
Nestled in a rocky cove on the Sea of Cortez, this picturesque town
is a favorite of "sun-worshippers" from the United States.
We will have time for a boat cruise in search of grey whales, a
tour of a saltwater pearl farm, and shopping in the village before
returning to the train. Enjoy dinner and overnight on board. (B,L,D)
Day 4
Navojoa and Alamos
Enjoy a leisurely morning on board the train as we traverse the
Mexican countryside toward Navojoa. This afternoon, upon arrival,
we venture into the interior to the colonial silver mining town
of Alamos. A tour guide will point out the interesting architecture
of the numerous mansions that line the narrow cobblestone streets
of this peaceful, 17th century village. This afternoon, we return
to the train for dinner and overnight en route to our next destination
and a journey through Mexico's Copper Canyon. (B,L,D)
Day 5
El Fuerte
Today we venture into Mexico's famous Copper Canyon. Located in
the heart of the Sierra Madre Mountain Range, this great canyon
is accessible only by rail. Noted by many as the most scenic rail
route in the world, it winds through 83 tunnels and crosses over
35 trestles as we climb from sea level to 8,000 feet. The afternoon
is spent exploring the town of El Fuerte, rafting, touring the Old
Fort and enjoying a Folklore Indian Dance in the Mayo Indian village
of Tehueco. This evening, we return to the train for dinner and
overnight. (B,L,D)
Day 6
Divisadero
Our journey continues further up into the canyon until we reach
the Sierra Madre Plateau. The numerous walking paths and lookouts
allow visitors to take in the expanse of the canyon from several
viewpoints. Making this experience even more unique is the luxury
of returning to the American Orient Express, where we will enjoy
fine cuisine and toast a "sundowner" cocktail in this
rustic canyon setting. (B,L,D)
Day 7
Creel
Similar to the Pueblo Indians of America, the Tarahumara Indians
have adapted and thrived on this rugged high plateau. Living in
one of the most isolated regions in North America, these indigenous
people were relatively unknown to the outside world until the end
of the 19th century, when the railroad brought commerce and trade
to the region. Accessible only by railroad, the Tarahumara still
hold onto their traditional way of life. We enjoy the day interacting
and learning about these interesting people. This evening, we board
the train, enjoy a farewell cocktail reception, dinner and overnight
en route to our final destination. (B,L,D)
