Montreal
Arrive in the majestic city of Montreal, the largest city in the Quebec province. Enjoy an evening tour of the city with magnificent views of downtown and old Montreal. Hosted welcome dinner at the hotel this evening. (D)

Montreal to Maine
"All Aboard" as we depart for Maine's Moosehead country on the ACADIAN You will be traveling in style in these 1940's vintage Budd railcars, restored to modern standards while retaining the elegance of another era. An elegant brunch will be served in one of the magnificent dining cars, prepared freshly on board by an executive chef. (BR,D)

Maine
Awake to some of North America's most stunning scenery and prepare for a day of fun-filled adventure. Choose from various excursions around the Moosehead Lake area, including white water rafting, fishing, hiking and a scenic cruise along the lake. Later, join your local guide for a photographic moose hunt. Don't forget your camera! (B,D)

Day 4
Saint John
We say goodbye to Maine today and continue east in luxury aboard the ACADIAN. Sit back and let our staff pamper you and enjoy the changing scenery from your Dome, Parlour and Observation cars. The leisurely rail journey winds past numerous lakes and small towns crossing back into the Canadian province of New Brunswick. Your destination today is Saint John famous for its "Reversing Falls". This phenomenon occurs at the river's mouth, where strong tidal fluctuations of 30 feet reverse the rivers flow for several miles upstream twice daily. (B,L,D)

Day 5
St Andrew
Transfer to the historic town of St. Andrews, known as Canada's first seaside resort town. Leisure time in the National Historic District where you can enjoy eclectic shops and a variety of restaurants. St. Andrews boasts many well-known artists who you may observe at work in their studios and galleries. Leisure time at the fabulous Algonguin Hotel, our accommodations for tonight.(B,D)

Day 6
Digby
Travel across the Bay of Fundy to Digby, Nova Scotia today. Don't forget to watch for the whales.The incredible exchange of waterwith the tides makes the Bay of Fundy nutrient rich and therefore one of the world's most accessible sites for viewing marine mammals. Your resort tonight overlooks the Bay of Fundy. (B,D)

Day 7
Peggy`s Cove
Visit to Champlain's Habitation, Canada's oldest permanent settlement. Continue to Grand Pre and the land of the Evangeline which runs parallel to the Fundy coastline. Pass back through time and explore North America's earliest history. Later, discover the charm of the famous fishing village of Peggy's Cove.

Day 8
Halifax
Your destination today is Halifax the capital city of Nova Scotia province and home to the second largest natural harbor in the world. The waterfront continues to be a hot spot, boasting some of the city's most stimulating entertainment and fascinating historical landmarks. This hilly city, rises from the harbor and the historic central district, to the upper ramparts of Citadel Hill, offering wonderful views of the city and waterfront. Remainder of today is at leisure to explore. The heart of Halifax is perfect for exploring on foot, with tree-lined streets, international restaurants, galleries, libraries and museums. (B,D)



 

Day 9
Halifax to Montreal
Morning at leisure for more sightseeing and last minute souvenirs. Afternoon departure aboard VIA's First Class Ocean service for Montreal. This service includes a private seating compartment which converts to a comfortable bed at night. Along with other Easterly class passengers, you will have exclusive access to the sleeping car and Park car, with its Mural Lounge, Bullet Lounge and spectacular 360° views from the dome. (B)

Montreal
Awake this morning to complimentary continental breakfast served in the Bullet Lounge car. After breakfast disembark the train at Montreal and continue your return journey.

Day 3
Maine
After a continental breakfast its"all aboard" as we depart for Moosehead country on the ACADIAN train. The
train features 1940's restored vintage railcars. Champagne brunch will be served in one of our magnificent dining cars, prepared fresh on board by our executive chef. Enter the beautiful pine tree state of Maine. (CB,BR,D)

Maine
Prepare for a day of fun-filled adventure with local excursions around Moosehead Lake area. Choose from various options, including white water rafting, fishing, hiking and a scenic cruise along the lake or a seaplane tour. Later, join a photographic moose safari with a local guide. Day 5
Saint John
We say good-bye to Maine today and continue East in luxury aboard the ACADIAN. Time to daydream at the views from your Dome, Parlour and Observation cars. The leisurely journey will take us past numerous lakes and small towns as we cross back over the Canadian border into the New Brunswick province. The destination today is Saint John, on the famous Bay of Fundy. City tour on arrival. (B,L,D)


Day 6
Halifax
After breakfast depart on a city tour of Saint John which includes a stop at the famous reversing falls before continuing to Halifax. The ebb and flow of the tides makes this one of the world's natural wonders. Drive through Fundy National Park on your way to Hopewell Rocks to see how the Fundy tides have carved large flowerpots from the land. Yarmouth
Travel the Evangeline Trail through the Annapolis Valley, stopping at Grand Pre and Champlain's Habitation. Pass back through time as we explore North America's earliest history. Continue along the French Shore with stops along the way in delightful villages and towns. Overnight tonight at the coastal town of Yarmouth. (B,D)

Portland
Local sightseeing in Yarmouth this morning before departing on the high speed CAT ferry, which will return you to the U.S. mainland today disembarking at Bar Harbor. Tour the Bar Harbor en route to Portland. Free time in the historic district by the harbor. Time to wander the specialty shops, or simply sit back and enjoy the cafes and bars which line the waterfront. Farewell dinner at the hotel tonight. (B,D)

Amtrak's Downeaster service to Boston. Guided tour of Boston before continuing on the new high speed Acela Express train to New York. (B)

Prince Edward Island
After breakfast take a private transfer to the picturesque Prince Edward Island, former home of author L.M. Montgomery and her character, Anne of the Green Gables. Cross en route the Confederation Bridge, one of the longest bridges in the world. Tour the National Park on arrival, which contains the former home and favorite haunts of this famous author. Tonight enjoy a maritime dinner, a local tradition. (B,D)

Cape Breton
Depart by NFL Ferry for the short distance to Nova Scotia. On arrival transfer to the renown Cape Breton Island located on Atlantic Canada's coast. Our tour will include a stop at the
Alexander Graham Bell National historic Site where you can view original artifacts, personal mementos, and photographs of this famous resident. Leisure time this afternoon at your hotel located on the shores of the beautiful Bras d'Or Lakes. Time to relax and wander the town of Baddeck and its waterfront. For the adventuresome there is a short eagle watching boat tour (weather permitting). (B,D)

 

Day 7
Cape Breton
Another day in this beautiful area. Your tour today will follow the Cabot Trail, a scenic road throught the Cape Breton Highlands. Enjoy the spectacular scenery and wildlife of this National Park where moose and bald eagles abound, and humpback whales can be viewed in the waters of the Gulf of St. Lawrence. (B,L,D)

Halifax
Head south today along the shores of the Bras d'Or to the mainland and your destination, Halifax. Experience the sights and sounds of thriving 19th-century towns along the way including a visit to Fortress Louisburg. Halifax is home to the second largest natural harbor in the world. Buffet breakfast at the hotel.
